Your Great Wall Journey

Start early for the first light on Gubeikou’s mountain defenses, then continue your Great Wall walk toward Jinshanling. This program is for travelers who enjoy a quieter morning and an active start to the day.

Why watching the sunrise at Gubeikou is amazing?

Gubeikou is the section of the Great Wall that is most suitable for watching the sunrise. It is also a long section of the Great Wall. The mountains overlap, and the clouds are surrounding the peaks. The winding and undulating Great Wall, like the dancing silk of a girl, is vivid. Around the red sun, the glow was full. The light and soothing clouds seemed to be dancing in red girls.

In-depth Itinerary

Our excellent tour guide will meet you at your hotel or at the airport. It is going to be a 2.5 hours drive from Beijing to Jinshanling and West Simatai.

We will walk from Jinshanling west ring to the east, which is also called Simatai West. As we head west, the Wall will start to deteriorate gradually, making the hike progressively more challenging, but also interesting to observe and compare.

Jinshanling is celebrated for its varied watchtowers, broad ridge views, and distinctive defensive architecture. The Wall follows the terrain closely, revealing how its builders adapted the defenses to the mountain setting.

West Simatai, also called the Second Valley in this program, contains rugged, unrestored Great Wall masonry. Look for defensive features such as barriers set perpendicular to the parapets, which show how the fortifications were designed to slow an attack.

When we finally will stop by a local farmer's restaurant for a late lunch before we head back to your hotel in Beijing or to the airport if you are laying over in Beijing.

1S3: Sunset on the Jinshanling–West Simatai Ridges

Yesterday was one of the greatest days of my life! I don't know how to properly thank you for providing me with this opportunity of a lifetime. And Oliver was truly exceptional! How lucky I am that you chose him a my guide!

In addition to writing all about you in my book, I will also be writing wonderful things on the major social media sites.
