Jiankou, Great Wall of China

The most photogenic section of the Great Wall

If you look up any photos, the most awesome photos’ are the ones from this part of the Great Wall. Why? Not just because of the beautiful scenery but due to its sharp, whiteness feature and of course due to its steepness. Known as 'Arrow Nock' in English as it features an arrow shaped mountain.

Built in the Ming Dynasty era (1368 - 1644). Today The Great Wall at Jiankou retains its original appearance since its construction in 1368. It is known for its ‘wildness’ otherwise untouched, unrestored and has all its history on display for you to see! One of the most notable features is it zigzags for 9.3 miles.

Jiankou connects to the Mutianyu Great Wall in the east and joins Huanghuacheng Great Wall. It is famous for the large pieces of white rock that make the wall striking to the eye from a distance. 'The Nine-Eye Tower' is its most famous section where it was an important command post in wars. There are three layers with nine holes altogether making it look like nine eyes on each side. Also another feature of this section is meeting point for the three walls all from different directions and known as ‘The Beijing Knot’. 'The Sky Stair' is another famous part as the angle is so steep that people say that even eagles would have to fly facing upward to reach the top!

Zhengbeilou Tower at Jiankou is our second camping base at the Great Wall of China.
