Your Great Wall Journey

Experience two sides of China’s history: the grand courtyards of the Forbidden City and a night in the Great Wall landscape. This two-day program connects Beijing’s imperial center with a quieter mountain setting.

Learn and explore the Forbidden City and be amazed of the Great Wal

Great Wall Adventure Club is the only authorized business that is approved by the Great Wall Administration Office to offer camping on the Great Wall to all our customers. We are not like any other Tour guide company. We are unique because 100% of our focus is on the customer. To camp on the Great Wall legally, we pay a fee to the Great Wall Administration Office that allows us access to places no other companies have the authority to do so. Great Wall Adventure Club is not only the perfect guide for your Great Wall hike and camping experience but the only one.

Begin with Beijing’s Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and Olympic Green before heading to Jinshanling. Spend the night in a Great Wall watchtower, then continue on the following day toward Gubeikou’s unrestored ridges. The program combines the capital’s landmarks with the quieter mountain landscape.

Review from Anna

This was a truly amazing experience and it was made even better that out tour was very personal and private. Our train arrived a bit late but our guide, Luis, was very patient with us.  He also took amazing pictures for us and made sure we were constantly hydrated.

We were driven everywhere, leaving our energy for pure sightseeing which was perfect. Our favorite part was exploring the Great Wall and we were extremely happy we got to actually camp on it. The gear provided was used (of course), but everything was in good shape.

We had an AMAZING time and we honestly are so happy we went with the Great Wall Adventure Club instead of planning every single thing ourselves. It was worth the investment.

Thank you! I highly recommend this trip if you are on a tight schedule and want to see as many things as possible with a small group of friends.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: The Forbidden City, Olympic Park and Gubeikou Great Wall

Our driver will meet you at about 8 a.m. from your hotel to visit one of the greatest attractions in the world, The Forbidden City. Once homed by former emperors, it is the largest surviving palace.

After our Forbidden City tour, we will make our way to the most significant public square in the world, Tiananmen Square is seen as China's political center.

After a bite to eat, we will drive to the Olympic Park. It held the Olympics back in 2008 with the world watching. This area will be used again for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

At around 2 p.m., depart for the approximately two-hour drive to Gubeikou. Hike about 10 km along its winding, steep ridges, with time to admire the varied towers and watch the sunset over the Great Wall.

Around 6 p.m., we will have dinner at a local farmer's house at the base of the Great Wall. This will be a delicious local Chinese cuisine served just for you. We will then climb back on the Great Wall and set up camp for the night in one of the Great Walls towers! All camping equipment will be provided, so all you have to do is have a comfortable sleep!

Meals and Supplies

Meals: Lunch & Dinner in the local restaurants

Bottled Water: Unlimited

Accommodations: Camping at Gubeikou Great Wall with a full set of camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, and mattress)

DAY 2: Jinshanling to West Simatai (7 km, 3 hours of hiking)

An early wakeup call to watch the sunrise over the Great Wall and then onto Huanghuacheng, Great Wall.

Wake at about 5:30 a.m. to watch sunrise over the Great Wall.

Continue along Jinshanling’s eastern ridges toward West Simatai, called the Second Valley in this program. The increasingly weathered masonry makes the route more rugged and reveals the Great Wall’s original character.

The Jinshanling Great Wall possesses a great opportunity to take in some fabulous views. Make sure to take your camera. You will not be disappointed! This part of the Great Wall has not been repaired since 1570. It is very remote, but it's what makes it so unique and a great chance to experience the nature and the wild parts of the Wall.

It is a great place to explore on foot. According to one hiker, this is what you should expect to find at Jinshanling:

Jinshanling Great Wall hiking towards Simatai was amazing! If you have not been on the Great Wall, do your research first, as many other sections are crammed with tourists, and you don't get to enjoy it. Jinshanling was just out of this world, beautiful, quiet, and beautiful views of your surroundings! I will never forget it!

After completing this hike we will have some lunch and then back to your hotel around 4 p.m.
